into the way of Jesus
Pennway Church of God exists to invite you into the way of Jesus. We believe that everyone comes to Father God only through Jesus (John 14:6). In the Gospels, we read of the extraordinary life, world-transforming death, and power-spreading resurrection of Jesus. The way of Jesus leads to the Father, leads to salvation, and continues to transform us throughout our lives. We believe the way of Jesus is committed to the Presence of God, love of neighbor, Kingdom life, generational impact, and hilarious generosity.
Core Commitments
The Presence of God
Luke 4
Our ultimate pursuit is the Presence of God. The Presence is a person, so we must nurture and grow our relationship. We pursue him through prayer, worship, the study of his word, and by stepping into our identity as sons & daughters. We know that we must do this individually and together.
Love of Neighbor
Matthew 22, Mark 12, Luke 10
Who is my neighbor? The one who is not yet at my table. The one who others may look at with esteem or disgust. The one whom God misses the most. We will invite and champion and love our neighbors- next door and a world away.
Kingdom Life
Luke 17
Community where we contribute and allow others (especially those different than us) to change us; learning from those we are different from, disagree with, and feel uncomfortable around is one of the key ways God refines/matures us.
Generational Impact
1 Corinthians 11 & Psalm 145
We are confident we will see his goodness in the land of the living, and we will spend our lives to impact the generations. We have dreams and visions that only our great-grandchildren will see come to life. One generation will praise his works to the next and the next and the next.
Hilarious Generosity
2 Corinthians 8-9
We will give our time, our gifts, and our resources in a way that leads to laughter! In a way that leads people into the Way of Jesus. And which encourages everyone to believe in his power and grace.
