“A place to belong” is our theme for the Fall.

When my children are feeling down, it is often because they have struggles fitting in or feeling like they can never be good enough. It isn’t just children that deal with these emotions. Everyone has a longing to be part of something, to belong. Society bombards us with images and ideas of what we should look like, how we should think and feel, and what toys we need for success. It’s not easy keeping up with the Joneses! And just when we think we have it figured out, we realize that the standards have changed and the Joneses have moved on to the next shiny object. All the while, the longing to belong goes unfulfilled

There is good news in the face of this: There is one place everyone belongs. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, highly educated or struggle to read, rich or poor, big or small, popular or lonely… There is a place… only one place I know of where everyone belongs. And that place is the church, the body of Christ.

As you enter the sanctuary, you will notice several church window frames, some empty, others with pictures of various people. The church windows above the platform represent the “place” in “A Place to Belong.” The photographs in them show a wide variety of people – people of different ethnicities, ages, and family groups –  because everyone belongs here. The window frames hanging above the pews are empty because they represent you, and you belong here.

It is our prayer that whether you have been attending for a short time or you have called this place your home for years, that you will indeed find that Pennway Church of God is “A Place to Belong.”
